Within the framework of its MIBMA project, ICMPD in Armenia, together with the EU Delegation to Armenia and the Development Foundation of Armenia co-organized the EU-Armenia-Iran Business Forum on 15 September 2017. The forum is organized within the framework of the “Europe in Armenia” EXPO taking place on September 15-17 at the initiative of EU Delegation to Armenia, where 90 companies from various EU countries presented their products and services.

As part of a comprehensive process aimed at enhancing the research and data management capacities of state agencies active in the migration field in order to contribute to sound policy-making in Armenia, from the 17th to the 19th of July, ICMPD in Armenia organised the third training on Research Methodology and Alternative Sources of Migration Data. The aim of the training was to improve the capacities of relevant Government institutions and national experts to monitor, research, investigate and analyse migration-related developments in order to provide timely, accurate, independent and impartial assessments, as well as expert advice on the migration situation in Armenia.

From the 7th to the 10th of July, ICMPD in Armenia organized the second media trip to the Martuni region of the Gegharkunik province. 11 journalists representing various Armenian media outlets, including aysor.am, lragir.am, aravot.am, Respublika Armenia, newsbook.am, Public Radio of Armenia, Qyavar TV, jamnews.am, Chai-Khana.org and others, visited the Kalavan, Dprabak, Tsovinar, Artsvanist, Yeranos and Sotk villages and gathered the views of the village elders and the broader local population. The main interview topics included successful examples of community development, labour migration, living conditions and issues faced by the local population, as well as working opportunities in and out of Armenia.

On 19 June 2017 the 3rd Steering Group Meeting of MIBMA project took place. The Meeting was devoted to an overview of the activities implemented and results achieved in the first half of 2017, as well as provided an insight on the workplan for the next half of 2017. It was opened by Mr Radim Zak, Regional Coordinator for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, ICMPD, who replaced Mr Borut Erzen,, Head of Programme, in this capacity.

On the 8th and 9th of June, ICMPD in Armenia organised the second training on research methodology and alternative sources of migration data for the relevant Government institutions and national experts, within the framework of the MIBMA project. The aim of the training was to introduce participants to the main features of data management, from storage to simple data mining techniques and ways of representing it in tabular and graphical form.

The Government of Armenia has tasked the State Migration Service with reviewing the various immigrant investment and entrepreneurship programs that exist within the EU and elsewhere and to prepare a legislative proposal to introduce a similar scheme in Armenia. ICMPD in Armenia, within the framework of the EU-funded MIBMA project, invited an expert group from the Arton Capital company to carry out an extensive research in order to identify current programs and shape and design the best suitable program for Armenia.
