On 13 - 15 December 2016, ICMPD organized a training on ID document authentication and profiling for 12 newly recruited border guards. The training was conducted by EU experts from The Netherlands and Slovenia jointly with the national trainer from the Border Troops of the National Security Service.
The training was aimed at raising awareness among front line officers on the design and abuse of security documents and to emphasize their vital role in detecting false documents.
By the end of the training, participants learned about printing techniques, document security features, and standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). During practical exercises, participants worked with Regula magnifiers to identify falsified features on sample ID documents. Additionally, participants were informed about vulnerabilities of technology at the borders and importance of profiling and human capacity power at borders.
