The second Steering Group Meeting of MIBMA project took place on 12 December 2016. The meeting was attended by representatives of RA Police, RA National Security Service and RA Ministry of Economy, EU Delegation to Armenia, ICMPD, EU Member States, UNDP, IOM, UNHCR and Office Français de l’Immigration et de l’Intégration (OFII).
The meeting was opened by Mr. Borut Erzen, ICMPD Senior Programme Manager and Mr. Aram Tananyan, Head of Secretariat of the National Security Council. Mr. Carel Hofstra, MIBMA Team Leader presented the progress and activities implemented in 2016. The most important activities were the development of the draft Strategy for Migration Policy for the period of 2017 – 2021; presentation of the design paper and investment plan for the reception centre and procurement of equipment and furniture for Border Troops’ training room.
During the meeting, participants had the opportunity to further discuss draft Strategy for Migration Policy presented by Mr. Gagik Yeganyan, Head of State Migration Service as well as the results of the household survey presented by Mr. Ruben Yeganyan, Russian-Armenian Slavonic University of Armenia.
Among the activities planned for 2017 are works towards finalisation of the Strategy for Migration Policy Action Plan, Integration Strategy Action Plan, feasibility study on facilitating remittances and designs for the TAC and Meghri BCP. MIBMA project partner, UNDP, will concentrate efforts towards the modernisation of the Meghri BCP, trade facilitation study as well as a number of capacity building activities in the area of accountability, transparency, and integrity.
