On 12 December, ICMPD office in Armenia organised the 7th Steering Group Meeting of “Support to Migration and Border Management in Armenia” project. The Meeting was organized with the aim to review the progress and activities implemented in 2019.
The Head of ICMPD office in Armenia, Mr Carel Hofstra, presented the overview of completed actions. In particular he mentioned that the support provided to Migration Service of Armenia included, inter alia, establishment of Analytical Unit and organisation of initial training, finalization of Migration Profile in three languages, procurement of equipment to implement new labour permit system. As well ICMPD supported development of new website for Migration Service and organisation of 9 training to enhance the local experts’ capacities on integration measures and human rights thus ensuring 174 beneficiaries. In terms of providing assistance to the Border Troops of the RA on document security, 10 mobile readers, ICT equipment, furniture, laptop computers were handed over to the Border Troops training centre and planned training and experience sharing exchanges organised. In addition, the first Summer school on Migration and development, international conference on Border Management, “Suitcase 2019” journalism contest on migration issues and other visibility activities were also conducted.
Ms Irina Davtyan, Deputy Head of Migration Service of Armenia, presented the process of implementation of migration policies. Of separate interest was presentation of Mr Ruben Yeganyan from Slavonic University about the main results of migration situation of Armenia for 2019.
The Project Steering Group is an external project governance structure, consisting of permanent representatives from EU Delegation, the Government of Armenia and ICMPD as well as invited observers from EU Member States, EU agencies and international organizations.
