On 15 and 16 of May 2018, ICMPD in Armenia, in close collaboration with UNHCR and the Armenian Red Cross Society, organized its regular capacity building event, this time on Interviewing Techniques, for the Border Control Detachment staff. The training was delivered by ICMPD expert Dirk Calemyn and contributed to the improved practical skills amongst relevant Border Troops staff in communicating with vulnerable groups and persons requesting asylum, specifically enhancing their interviewing skills.
The training was attended by the officers from all Border Control Detachments. During the training the participants learned about partnerships and organisations involved in the field of asylum and protection. Mr Calemyn presented the PEACE model for interviewing specifically focusing on the interviewing vulnerable persons, after which the participants took part in role playing. They also were briefed on the specifics of working through interpreters in the refugee context. The training was specifically concentrated on the Practical Guide on access of asylum-seekers to the territory and the asylum procedure in the Republic of Armenia.
This training in fact, is part of the capacity building process for the Border Control Detachment staff.
